An experienced Formulary P&T Committee Advisor across both primary care and specialty hospitals, Omar Ali has also served as a member to the CCG/ICS Commissioning Prescribing Clinical Network. Omar has been a visiting Lecturer at UCLH Pharmacy Programme and was both Lecturer & Examiner on the Independent Prescribing V300 Course at the University of Surrey and has over 35 publications to date. He has been appointed as Visiting Lecturer on Value Based Pricing & Innovative Contracting at the University of Portsmouth, is an Editorial Content Adviser to Guidelines, and has also served as a position of Associate Editor to the Canadian Journal of Population Therapeutics & Clinical Pharmacology.
Omar subsequently held the position of External Reference Group on Cost Impact Modelling for NICE for 6 years and was subsequently appointed Panel Member for the newly formed Adoption & Impact Program Reference for NICE. During this tenure he served as a Government Payer, assessing new medicines for pricing, access and reimbursement, supporting the negotiation of medicine prices for the NHS coverage plan for over 60 million lives. He advises foreign investors (US Embassy) on Value Based Assessments (hosted by the UK Department of Trade & Industry) and has delivered Healthcare NHS Reform annual program to over 40 Healthcare Insurance Provider delegates who regularly visit from the US. In recent years he was invited to address the Italian Healthcare Senate [Senato della Repubblica] on Pharmaco-economic Evaluation & Sustainability Models of Healthcare and featured at the UK Government Westminster Health Forum Keynote Seminars [chaired by Lord Howe, All Party Parliamentary Group on Pharmacy] on the Future for Pharmacy Commissioning, Organisation & Delivery.
At this current time Omar has embarked on a PhD with his doctorate thesis entitled “Value Based Pricing & Outcomes Based, Innovative Contracting of New Medicines" and as part of his research has a team collating a unique repository (IC Tracker) of "live" innovative contracts between drug manufacturers and governments from around the globe.
Omar loves music and is a keen drummer; He enjoys travel and has a philosophy of enjoying life, whatever you put your mind to! As a single father to 3 daughters rapidly approaching adolescent years, he is well versed with financial budget impact models and how they may not go according to plan! He has promised to be engaging for his debut at the AMCP conference and will ensure that his presentations will be brought to life through the medium of storytelling and occasional humour!
